Oakland - Santiago de Cuba Sister CityThe Oakland - Santiago de Cuba sister city relationship was ratified by the Oakland City Council in 1998. The official signing by Mayor Jerry Brown was on July 2000 in Santiago de Cuba. The Oakland-Santiago de Cuba Sister City Association was formed to promote peace and friendship. Oakland and Cuba have formed an exchange of culture, education, humanitarian aid , music and art. Santiago de Cuba is a port city widely known for its art culture. The second largest city in Cuba, the city known for being the cradle of the Revolution in 1958.
